NOVEMBER SOURCING

The warmth in a room

A time for gathering and closeness. As the last embers of summer fade into the earth and the light thins, we turn from the outside in. We seek out things with greater depth and substance. And at home, we settle into a slower pace.

A cottage sitting room by Christian Bense, with pale panelled walls, a stone fireplace with a lit wood burner, a timber beam, a linen sofa and a tan ottoman stacked with books.

Autumn invites us to the pleasure of reflection and familiarity. As the days shorten, rooms are softened by the rhythms of autumnal life: the glow of a mid-afternoon lamp, a favourite chair that bears the gentle impression of use, a worn throw close to hand. Richer colours mellow to bark, peat, oxblood and a green so dark it verges on black. We gravitate towards texture. In every piece is the comfort of unhurried living.

Our selection this month embraces layering, depth of tone and textures that ground and comfort. The emphasis is on slow, considered production and objects made to last, their materials softening with use.

Grounding tones

A playful reimagining of a rare mid-century find, the Toadstool was originally created by Studio Duggan in collaboration with Boura & White for WOW!house 2026 and is now available through Trove by Studio Duggan. Equally at home tucked into a corner or moved wherever an extra seat is needed, it is a playful punctuation piece designed to bring whimsy and character to a room. In Brassica, deep oxblood and bitter chocolate recall the forest floor, flecked with lighter tones like bark after rain.

Textured walls

The collection takes its inspiration from the Marwar school of Rajput court painting, where artists depicted deities, animals, flowers and stories drawn from the region’s rich folklore. Pelican House takes up this tradition in a series of handwoven wall hangings, worked in the earthy colours of the originals: terracotta, ochre, gold, olive, blush and cream.

A seat by the fire

As the fireplace takes centre stage, the club fender becomes more than a place to perch: a seat from which to command the room or hold it in suspense. Clock House Furniture makes its fenders in East Lothian, where a small team of joiners, upholsterers and specialist finishers work under one roof, with metal club fenders made to order in black powder coating, anthracite or bronze.

Fringe Details

This November, Oyuna takes up residence at Sigmar’s King’s Road showroom. In Mongolia’s nomadic tradition, comfort lies not in accumulating possessions, but in choosing a few precious things to keep close. That philosophy runs through Oyuna Tserendorj’s sumptuously soft cashmere throws, made to be cherished and carried through life.

The signature hand-cut fringe detail adds three-dimensional texture and offers the simplest of winter pleasures: warmth, softness and comfort.

Flowers for winter

Mimosa is one of the few flowers to bloom in winter, carried as a sign of hope since the rituals of ancient Egypt. Textile makers Rapture & Wright have hand-printed its delicate blossoms into a small-scale floral. Rosarita as its quieter companion, which deepens under a lamp and works beautifully alongside larger prints.

Michael Anastassiades’s Floating Forest series consists of seven individual brass moulds, each delicately holding a single seedling over any glass, its roots in plain view. It’s a small promise of spring through the dark months and a joy to wonder at on the windowsill.

As the evenings draw in, the light in a room changes, bringing a different character to the grain of timber, the texture of upholstery and the warmth of lamplight. More for the month: a selection that brings together lamps for the early evenings, dark timber, and art in substantial frames. Each has its own character, shaped by the materials and the hands that worked them, with finishes and fabrics that will mellow through years of use.
