Fosbery Studio is an independent lighting workshop in Folkestone, Kent, where designers, craftspeople and engineers bring traditional skills together with modern manufacturing techniques to create made-to-order decorative lighting. Working with a considered palette of brass, responsibly sourced timber, linen, clay, paper and recycled glass, chosen for their natural beauty and sustainable credentials, the studio explores the qualities of each material, developing new techniques and forms through a balance of established craft and experimentation.
The Story behind
Lighting designer and founder Daniel Fosbery moved from North London to Folkestone in 2017, building on a career in bespoke lighting to create a workshop for developing his own designs. The studio brings together his expertise in lighting and engineering with specialist skills in hand-stitching and tailoring. The team continues to explore new ways of working with materials, while considering each design’s full lifecycle. Finishes are either naturally occurring, such as scorching, or water-based; old components, brass offcuts and even shavings from sawing and drilling are collected for recycling at a local salvage yard.
Services
Decorative lighting to order, with bespoke commissions available. Alongside the lighting collection, the studio makes handcrafted lampshades, fabric wall lights and café curtains, using their own fabrics or client-supplied. Some lights can be adapted with a push switch and hessian cord for interiors where cables cannot be chased. Visits are by appointment, with trade access and international shipping available on request. Wiring options are available for the UK, Europe, America and Canada.
