Kate Medlicott is an English design studio based in rural Somerset, creating bold and colourful textiles and wallpapers, often inspired by the natural world and Kate’s time living in Asia. All of Kate's patterns start life on the pages of her sketchbook, using inks, pencils and paints. With a deep commitment to sustainability all of the fabrics are woven and printed in the UK by carefully selected family-run factories and mills. The collection reflects Kate’s instinct for giving motifs room to breathe, bringing together a love of colour, decorative detail and unexpected combinations.
The Story behind
Raised on an organic farm in the West Country, Kate studied Fine Art and History of Art, before being drawn to a career in business in London, Singapore and Hong Kong. Kate’s return to rural England prompted a reconnection with the creative arts and a fabric design commission led to the founding of her eponymous brand in 2019. Now based near Glastonbury in Somerset, Kate is inspired by her surroundings, travels and the history of collected objects, She is also drawn to the use of strong colours, something that has its roots in her beginnings as a painter. She believes a thoughtfully placed hue or mark can inject energy and beauty into a design and takes great joy in her designs being colourful, bold and understated.
Services
Kate Medlicott offers a growing collection of prints and weaves, suitable for curtains, cushions and upholstery. The fabrics are printed to order in England onto the highest quality British-woven linen union, whilst the wovens are produced at a historic, family-run mill using flax and cotton. Made to order cushions and lampshades are also available. Fabric and wallpaper samples can be ordered online and are shipped worldwide. The studio also offers a bespoke colour-matching and design service.
