Interior designer Christian Bense is known for creating practical, elegant spaces with gorgeous depth and warmth. His love for a curated aesthetic has influenced the anchor piece of this living room edit, a skirted, contemporary sofa by Turner Pocock x Lorfords.
He then marries other classic staples with several more edgy and contemporary pieces. With a rich mix of materials and finishes, this collection feels curated and layered, homely yet neat.

Christian appreciates intrinsic depth, where wallpapers are woven, materials are mixed, and fabrics are lived in.
When tackling new spaces, a recommendation by Christian is to invest in one key item of furniture per room, chosen simply because you like it. This piece becomes the anchor of the room, and informs the other design choices.
This Boomerang Lounge Chair, designed by Hvidt & Mølgaard in 1956 and made by Danish design house &Tradition, looks fantastic placed by itself or in a pair. Its streamlined form sets off and balances the more traditional silhouette of the skirted sofa.

Christian chooses art by picking something he loves, without thinking about the room. His collection can often be a mix of valuable pieces with inexpensive finds. In his own home, he has placed personal items next to pieces he simply just loves, following his ethos that a selection of art should be driven by personal connection, not the room.
