The Story behind

Hand-silvered mirror glass, crafted in Devon with historic expertise

Founded by a restorer and conservator who worked with the National Trust and English Heritage for over a decade, and an upholsterer and dealer of antique French chairs and mirrors, Rough Old Glass began with a need to replace lost mirror plates in antique French frames. Years of handling genuine 18th- and 19th-century glass informed the development of their own hand-silvering and distressing techniques. Demand quickly expanded beyond the antiques world, and today, they are supported by a growing team of artists, silverers, gilders, and welders.
