Ælfred is London’s largest warehouse dedicated to mid-century Scandinavian furniture and homewares, based in Hackney Wick. Founded by Danish design expert Nina Hertig, co-founder of the acclaimed gallery Sigmar, Ælfred offers a curated, affordable alternative to fast furniture, with every item selected for its quality, craftsmanship, and character. With all pieces priced under £2,500, Ælfred promotes sustainability through vintage, encouraging visitors to see, touch, and connect; and to own quality pieces they truly love.

The Story behind

Curated mid-century Nordic design with timeless quality and sustainable spirit

Launched in 2022, Ælfred was born from Hertig’s desire to make good design fun, affordable, and approachable. Housed in a welcoming warehouse – discovered with the help of fellow Danes Nina Tolstrup and Jack Mama of Studio Mama – the space offers real-world treasure hunting. Stock is sourced directly from across Scandinavia and replenished regularly, giving Ælfred its signature sense of discovery. At its heart, the showroom is a celebration of Nordic heritage, craftsmanship, and thoughtful, joyful living.

Ælfred’s offers a furniture hire service.
